2007

    Don't Forget

Parents:  We have tons of storage space on the site for prom pictures.  If you have pictures from the 2007 prom (before, during, after), please make a disk and get it to Andy Welch somehow:  EMail to andyw@uwmail.com  (5-10 pics per email, as many emails as you want to send), or Mail/drop off at 212 Highland Drive, Aledo (Deer Creek)

Looking for scholarships and/or help with the FAFSA?  Check out  www.fastweb.com.  It's free and informative!

If you need a formal HS transcript for a college application, fill out a yellow sheet at the counselors office.  The HS is just now switching to a new system for transcripts so be sure to get one soon and check it for errors that need to be fixed.

Last Update: 6/21/2007

Welcome to the home of Aledo Project Celebration 2007!!

    News Items:

(6/21/07) Posted more graduation pictures and additional prom pictures.  Just click on the photo button above and then the group number (Group 4 has the latest pictures received).  Keep 'em coming!

(6/16/07) Parents:  As you recover from the senior activities, please send in any other pictures you'd like to share.  We'll add them to the site which is linked with the future Aledo Project Celebration classes.  The pictures will be nice to look back on and also give the upcoming classes a preview of their senior experience!  Thanks again.

(6/08/07) Parents: It was a great Senior Breakfast this morning (thanks Lori, Denise, and committee)! Great DVD, too (thanks Kim and Mrs. Paul)!  If anyone would like to purchase additional decks of cards from the breakfast for $4, please contact Lori (cookpartyof4@sbcglobal.net), Denise (deni0214@sbcglobal.net), or Krista (khall@aledo.k12.tx.us).  Also, barring any unforeseen issues, the students should receive their copies of the DVDs at graduation Monday. Don't forget line-up time for graduates is 5:45 pm.

(6/06/07) Just a few notes from Monday evening’s meeting:

        • We have received positive feedback about the celebration at Main Event.  Promenade was awesome, with many great comments about the decorations, and red carpet set up.  Thanks, again, to Becky Graves and Caren Tyer for coordinating, and  to all who contributed their time and efforts.

        • Sponsor thank you inserts have been printed for the commencement programs.  As soon as the high school receives the programs we will need to stuff these into them.  Anyone who can help (probably Thursday or Friday) please contact Jan Tracy at JanMonTr@aol.com.

        • Thanks to Andy Welch, there will be a central website for future Project Celebration Class Committees.  Be sure to check out this year’s for prom pictures, and feel free to send more for Andy to post.  Also, the AISD website has a link to “Bearcat Vision”, which has a short video of promenade.

        • The DVD is finished, thanks to Mrs. Paul and Kim Hardick.  These should be distributed to the students at Friday’s senior breakfast.  The breakfast will begin at 9:00 am at the First Baptist Church Aledo.  The Senior Breakfast is, of course, for the students, however, parents are welcome to come watch the video and/or pitch in where needed.  Seating is reserved for the students, but, there should be plenty of standing room for us old folks.  Decorating and preparations will take place at the church on Thursday from around 9:00 – 5:00.  Anyone who can help at anytime during the day is welcome to come by.  Lori Cook and Denise Jones have done a fantastic job coordinating this event.

        • Thanks to all at Monday’s meeting who gave such great ideas for a class gift to the school.  After discussing the possibilities with Mrs. Sims and the school, a final decision will be made soon.  Remaining funds will be distributed to the students during a drawing at the breakfast.

        • Doors to the Convention Center will open at 6:00 pm Monday.  We have been told that saving seats is not allowed, so please plan accordingly.

        • Here’s to an exciting week ahead!

(5/15/07) Senior Breakfast Committee Parents:  We are taking orders for aprons for parent volunteers to wear the morning of the Senior Breakfast. They will be denim and have either a cowboy hat or boot on them, following the western theme of the event. The cost will be $10. Wearing one is optional - you do not have to have one in order to volunteer. If you would like to order one please contact Lori Cook (cookpartyof4@sbcglobal.net or 441-1311) or Denise Jones (deni0214@sbcglobal.net or 441-2002). The deadline for ordering is this Friday, May 18th.

(5/12/07)  Less than one week left till prom - I know everyone's ready! Here are some notes and useful information from the last meeting.

Tickets: The deadline for purchasing Prom tickets and Main Event sign up is May 14th. Students need to see Mrs. Peterson in the school office. Remind your senior that even though they have free admittance to Main Event, they still need to sign up with Mrs. Peterson and buy any non-senior's tickets. Students were given a handout which included directions to the hotel, Prom and Project Celebration rules, and the dinner menu. Every senior at Main Event will choose a $50 gift card AND Ruth Cox has some awesome door prizes that will be awarded in a drawing towards the end of the event.

Prom Night Agenda: 6:00 - Promenade at the High School 8-12 - Prom at Worthington Renaissance 1-6 Main Event.  Any student who signs up, but does not show up at Main Event by 1:30 will have their parents called.  Students will not be allowed to leave early unless their parent is present to pick them up. (A phone call will not suffice.)

Main Event Parent Volunteers: Please check the attachments to this email to verify the time and area for which you have volunteered to work and send an email to Mary Ann at maloeff@aol.com to confirm you are scheduled correctly. (The files are labeled by shift. ) Mary Ann will call to confirm those whom she has not heard from by Tuesday. Parent "uniforms" for the evening will be Aledo shirts and (comfy) blue jeans. Bring your cell phone, too, as that will be our means of communication. Jan Tracy, Head Party Honcho, will be our main contact. Her cell # is 817-233-9272. Huge thanks to all who have volunteered to help that evening. There will be a hospitality room at Main Event for parents, so be sure to come by and take a much needed (and well-deserved) break there.

Promenade: Setup for Promenade will begin around 2:30 on Friday. If you are not able to be here that early, please try to be there by 5:30 at the latest and check in when you arrive with either Becky Graves of Caren Tyer. Also, we need several junior or sophomore guys to help provide direction in the high school parking lot during Promenade. Please contact Caren at ctyeraledo@yahoo.com if you have a student who can help.

Senior Breakfast: Will be Friday, June 8th, from 9:00 - 11:00, at First Baptist Aledo, with graduation practice immediately following at the high school. There will be a meeting on Monday, June 4th, for all breakfast volunteers at 6:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. We still need approximately 100 more blue jean pockets. Please contact Lori Cook (cookpartyof4@sbcglobal.net) or Denise Jones (deni0214@sbcglobal.net) if you have any to spare.

Senior Talent Show: FYI, the seniors will have a talent show on Friday, May 18th, at the high school auditorium. Parents are welcome to attend.   If I have omitted anything or given incorrect info (it can happen), you'll hear from me again. Otherwise, see you Friday!

(5/06/07)  Project Celebration will meet once again this Monday, May 7, at 6:00 in the high school cafeteria.  Only 2 weeks left till prom, folks.  Hope your senior has made arrangements for limos, tuxedos, dresses, and flowers!  And, don’t forget the tickets – they went on sale in Mrs. Peterson’s office last week. Students will also need to sign up with her for Main Event at that time and pay for their non-senior date’s admission.

Also, don’t forget to get your picture cds to Kimberly Hardick for the Senior Video.  You may bring them to her at the meeting on Monday if you wish.  See you there!

(11/30) Senior Parents - Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are enjoying the playoff games! We have a few important Project Celebration announcements for you.

First, our next meeting will be Monday, December 4th, at 6:00 pm in the Administration Building Boardroom (the building across the lot from the main entrance to the high school). Please plan to attend if at all possible as the days are counting down to Prom!

Also, we have received the blanket shipment!! If you’re looking for that perfect Christmas gift you can get yours this Friday, Dec. 1, from 10 1 at the cookie booth in the high school. The price is the same - $35. This shipment is it we will not be ordering anymore after these sell. Plan to get yours Friday or send money with your student to purchase them for you that day. Any blankets remaining after Friday will be sent to the other campus offices to sell, along with the class cookbook (another great gift idea! :-)).

Finally, Kimberly Hardick needs your pictures for the senior video as soon as possible. Remember to send one baby picture and one current picture of your senior, along with any group shots of senior students you may have.

Submit them in digital format (you can do them at home or take them to most 1-hour photo shops). Be sure to include your senior’s name on the cd. You can drop it off at Aledo Yoga and Nia Center, which is next to Aledo Florist at 213 E. Oak Street or bring to Monday’s meeting. If you have any questions call Kimberly at 441-6206 or email her at Kimberly@aledoyoga.com <mailto:Kimberly@aledoyoga.com> . This is a HUGE job and we are grateful to Kimberly for volunteering to handle it. Please help her out by getting your cd to her soon, as we want as many seniors in the video as possible.  Have a great week!

(11/18) Thanks to all who helped provide food for today’s Cookbook Tasting Luncheon at the high school.  There was an abundance of fabulous food, appreciative teachers, and buzz about the new cookbooks.  Wow – what an awesome collection of recipes we have here!  If you haven’t yet bought your copy of the class cookbook, be sure to get yours soon.  Have a great Thanksgiving and we’ll see you at the next meeting on December 4th

(11/14)  Don’t forget to come by the Project Celebration table at varsity games where we will be selling Feeding Our Cats, the Class of 2007 cookbook.  These books are AWESOME, and will not only be a great source of recipes, but will make wonderful keepsakes and gifts (only 46 days till Christmas!).    The blankets are on backorder and, although they will not be here in time for the game, they will be available for sale at most school campuses after November 17th.   We are still needing more dishes for the AHS teachers’ luncheon next Friday (11/17), so please contact Melanie at melanie.loftin@prodigy.net if you can send something from one of the recipes in the cookbook.  Especially needed are main dishes, vegetables, salads and desserts. If you do not have a recipe in the book you can still help by sending 2-liter drinks for that day. Thanks for all your efforts and support!

  • (11/5) The cookbooks are here!!  They will be available to buy next week (after Tuesday) at any campus office.  Plan to buy yours soon – remember how fast the first shipment of blankets sold?  We plan to sell both of these items at the varsity football game on November 10th, so spread the word!
  • (11/5) the Cookbook Luncheon we are hosting for the high school teachers and staff has been changed to Friday, November 17th due to the early delivery of the books.  You can help by preparing one or two of the recipes you submitted for the cookbook for them to enjoy on that day.  There are 3 staff lunch periods, so, if possible, please plan to make enough of your dish to cover all lunches.  We REALLY need alot of volunteers to send food, so please help if you can.  If you did not submit a recipe you can still help by sending 2-liter bottles of soft drinks.  Contact Melanie Loftin at melanie.loftin@prodigy.net and let her know what you can bring (or send) and she will provide you with more details.
  • (10/25/06) Just posted the notes from the last parent meeting on 10/23 (click).  Next meeting is Monday December 4th.
  • (10/11/06) Several Notes:
    • October 14: Homecoming Dance – Ms. Sims needs at least 5 more parents to chaperone the dance this weekend.  If you can, PLEASE make an effort to help her out.  She is the senior class sponsor and is putting in alot of time to raise money for the actual prom itself.  Parents, don’t forget this is the last year to be involved with your student’s school activities (and this year is really going fast! J).  You can contact Ms. Sims through email at ksims@aledo.k12.tx.us or call the school office at 441-8711.
    • October 27:  Football Concessions – We are grateful to have been given the opportunity to earn money during concessions at this varsity game, but still need volunteers to work from the beginning of halftime through closing.  Senior students are welcome to help! Please contact Jan Dedeke if you can help at kidslovetennis@yahoo.com or 441-1427.
    • October 28:  Pansy Sales - Suncrop Nursery (Kari Hunnicutt) has offered to sell us flats of pansies at cost.  She will pull a truck up to the Pumpkin Patch, and we will sell them most likely on October 28.  You may contact Karen Linn for more info at karen.l.linn@lmco.com or 341-0777.
    • Varsity Game Parking Lots – Our duties in the reserved lots during home games have been extended to cover 3rd quarter as well.  If you can help out please call Dana Farrell at 441-8969.
    • See you at the next meeting, Oct. 23
  • (10/1/06) Posted the meeting minutes here (news/Sept 2006 Meeting recap.doc) from the September 2006 meeting
  • (10/1/06) If you haven't visited the AHS counselors page, check it out for information you might need now  for college applications and a host of other topics (http://www.aledo.k12.tx.us/hs/guidance.htm)
  • (9/18/06) Our next meeting is on for Mon. Sept. 25th from 6-7pm just before OPEN HOUSE ( 7-8 pm ) in the cafeteria.

  • (9/16/06) Concluded our poll on where to have the 2007 project celebration.  The majority (69%) liked Main Event of Fort Worth.
  • (9/1/06) Project Celebration has been given another opportunity to raise money for the after prom party.  We will be manning the reserved parking lots during each of the five home football games this season.  It requires four parents per game to provide direction within the lots to fans who have purchased season ticket parking.  (They will have already paid, thus, there will be no money handling on our part.)  If you would like to volunteer with this fundraiser please contact Dana Farrell at DjFarrell@uwmail.com or 441-8969.
  • (8/25/06)  The cookbook is really coming along.  We've had several meetings.  Melanie has done a great job!!  The deadline to get recipes in is Aug. 31st and we must submit the book by Sept. 15th.  That way we can get the books back by Nov.  to sell pre-holidays.  Mrs. Brunner  gave us some valuable advice, and has been so wonderful to lend us her artistic hand.  We will be offering a gift card to the art student whose design we use for the cover.  Title: Feeding Our Cats.
  • (7/25/06) Hello Senior Parents. There will be a Project Celebration Cookbook Committee meeting on Thursday, August 3, at 9:30 a.m. at Agape.  Anyone interested in helping with this fundraiser is WELCOME to attend.  If you are not able to be at this meeting there are still plenty of ways you can help.  Contact Melanie Loftin, Cookbook Committee Chairperson, at 441-6821 or  melanie.loftin@prodigy.net.
  • (6/5/06) Added specific parent information on key words to our PARENT INFO page (click).  Check that for things that senior parents need to know.  If you have a question not listed, please email us board@aledoprojectcelebration2007.com and we'll get the answer.
  • (6/1/06) Senior parents (yes, that's what we are now!) - In an effort to raise money for our class after prom party, Project Celebration 2007 will be producing a cookbook to sell this fall.  Melanie Loftin is heading up this endeavor and needs your help.  If you are interested in helping, please contact her at melanie.loftin@prodigy.net or Jan Tracy at janmontr@aol.com.  Work on this project will begin in July and you can help by emailing your recipes to Melanie.
  • (5/7/06) Don’t forget – Project Celebration Class of 2007 meeting will be at 6:00 pm Monday, May 8, at the High School.  We will meet in the Distance Learning Center (the first room on the right if you enter the school through the entrance by the flagpole).  A representative from the Class of 2006 will be there to report on this year’s party after prom.   If you have not yet made your $100 parent donation you may do so at the meeting.
  • (3/12/06) Updated the polls to add a new one specific to what kinds of information you'd like to see here (click)
  • If you'd like to get on the distribution list for Junior parents, just send an email to Amy (click)
  • Parents/guardians are asked to donate $100 to Project Celebration 2007.  These donations go into providing the after-prom party for the class of 2007.  Some have paid in full; some have partial payments and some need to send in the $100.  Please write the students' name on the check, payable to "Class of 2007" and mailed to the address below.  For questions, please send us a note at (board@aledoprojectcelebration2007.com).  Thanks!Class of 2007,

          P.O. Box 1282,

          Aledo, TX 76008

    • (2/6/06) Added additional contact information for the various committees to the Contacts page (click).  If you'd like to volunteer, please send us a note and we'll find a place for you (click).
    • (1/29/06) This is the initial installment of a website to help parents of 2007 gradutating Aledo HS seniors coordinate efforts for Project Celebration.  This project, formerly called Project Graduation, requires the help and support of parts of the 2007 graduating seniors in order to provide a safe environment for the after prom party.  For more information on this, please visit our history page (click) or send an email to one of our board members (click).
